The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County is a Dependent Special District created in 1975 by the Palm Beach County Solid Waste Act, Chapter 2001-331, as amended. The SWA provides solid waste disposal and recycling services and programs to Palm Beach County's 1.5 million residents and businesses, and waste collection services to unincorporated residents. To manage this waste, the SWA provides an economical and environmentally conscious integrated solid waste management system that includes seven Home Chemical & Recycling Centers, six transfer stations, two landfills (Class I and Class III), two renewable energy facilities, one Recovered Materials Processing Facility, one Biosolids Processing Facility, and more than 300 acres of a Greenway Trail system that includes a bird rookery.
