Mad Science Has You Covered ALL YEAR LONG!!!

Virtual and in-person programs available!

By Mad Science of Palm Beach July 25, 2020

Wow! What a whirlwind 2020 has been so far. Mad Science has been successfully running our virtual after school programs, coding clubs, summer camps and birthday parties since March! Covid-19 has not slowed us down. And our reviews have been nothing less than positive, proving that we have been able to adapt to this crazy, new way of living.

Here are just a few of the reviews parents have left us:

-"My 9 y/o loved it! The instructor had engagement with every child, cameras were set perfectly for a great view of what she was showing. It is a great alternative in these difficult times. Thank for offering these virtually!"

-"My son attended this camp live last year and was so looking forward to it again. We are so happy they chose to offer it virtually this year. Nadia has done an exceptional job of keeping the kids engaged. Her camera set up is perfect to allow the kids to see what she is doing. I was worried my 7 year old would not stay engaged the whole time, but he has. The two-hour time frame, the variety of activities, and Nadia making a point to have each child speak up and participate has been wonderful."

-"I like that my boys can do the activities by themselves yet can ask for help from instructor when needed"

-"Sammy loves everything about the programs. And, at a time when he cannot engage people in person, they have saved the summer. Thanks for everything, we just wish you had more of them!"

-"My daughter loved the interaction and support she was given during Space Camp!! Her excitement about learning and sharing was out of this world!"

-“Great virtual entertaining with a good balance of price, quality and time! A simple click on a Conference call and the Fun begins! Great quick and entertaining activity for a birthday party or any celebration when we all need joy and smiles, the Mad Science guy joined the call right on time, drove the attention of the kids and made an enjoyable time for all kids and adults alike! You can’t go MAD pun intended! Nice Science.”

SUMMER – AUGUST CAMP UPDATE

Due to the PBSD changing the start date of school to August 31, we have added 4 additional weeks of virtual summer camp to our schedule. The weeks we have added are August 3 to 7, August 10 to 14, August 17 to 21, and August 24 to 28. Our camps are for children in 1st through 7th grade and meet via Zoom on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 3pm. The camp cost is $75 per child. Children are asked to bring their own supplies to the screen each week. The supply list and zoom link are sent to the parent by Friday morning, the week prior to provide time to gather items. Most items are things that can be found in the home already and don’t need to be purchased. Some exceptions may apply. For weekly themes and to enroll, please visit our website https://palmbeachbroward.madscience.org/parents-camps.aspx or call (561) 747-3033.

Brain Strain Training Flip out your brain with these challenges!

What you need: A pencil, paper, a bowl, 10 pebbles, and yourself!

What you do:

1. Make a list of these challenge tasks. Do them once a day for a week. Compare how well you did them at the beginning of the week with your performance at the end of the week.

  • Get dressed or tie your shoes with your eyes closed.

  • Write a letter so that the next line reads in the opposite direction from the first.

  • Pick up pebbles with your toes and put them in a bowl.

  • Draw a family portrait with your non-dominant hand. For example, if you are right-handed, use your left.

  • Copy a picture turned upside-down.

What's going on? You're training your brain! Each challenge in the list is based on something you can do already. Your brain makes pathways for each task. Imagine it as a pathway that forms in a patch of grass after a lot of people have walked along the same route. The pathway is easier to follow when it is familiar. We've added a twist to each task! Your brain needs to make a new pathway. Repeating the task helps build up the pathway. The more you practice, the better you get. Your brain's ability to adapt to changes is called neuroplasticity (new-roe-plas-TI-sit-tee). Your brain is constantly updating itself with every new experience you have, from learning your multiplication tables to playing tag or testing a new video game. In this sense, your brain is like a muscle - it gets stronger the more you use it!
